Savory Mushroom Puff

Introduction

These Savory Mushroom Puffs are golden, flaky pastries filled with a rich and creamy mushroom mixture. Perfect as an appetizer, snack, or party treat, they combine the earthy flavor of mushrooms with aromatic herbs and a buttery puff pastry for a delicious bite-sized delight!

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 ½ cups mushrooms, finely chopped (button or cremini)

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp thyme or oregano

  • 2 tbsp cream cheese or heavy cream (optional, for creaminess)

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Prepare the filling: In a pan, melt butter or heat oil over medium heat. Sauté onion until soft and golden.

  3. Add garlic and mushrooms, cooking until moisture evaporates and the mixture turns slightly dry.

  4. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Stir in cream cheese if desired for a creamy texture. Let the mixture cool.

  5. Prepare the puff pastry: Roll out the pastry sheet slightly and cut into small squares (about 3×3 inches).

  6. Spoon a small amount of the mushroom filling onto the center of each square.

  7. Fold the pastry over to form triangles or rectangles, sealing the edges with a fork.

  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a shiny golden finish.

  9. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

  10. Serve warm, garnished with chopped parsley.
